Healthy Roots are the beginning of a secure lifetime.

When we support kids in developing these roots early, we lay the foundation for emotional strength and healthy development that lasts a lifetime.

Parenting is rewarding, but it can also be tough. Tantrums, hitting, or struggles at school can leave you feeling unsure of what to do. You’re not alone—and you don’t have to handle it by yourself.

I help children and families understand the “why” behind behaviors and guide them toward emotional growth and healing. Together, we can find a path forward for your child.

Call or email today for a free consultation—I’d be honored to support your family.

Child Therapy Services

Hello, I’m Shawna Ewing, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I specialize in working with children and teens, ages 3 through 18, and I’m passionate about helping families navigate life’s challenges with confidence and care.

Before becoming a counselor, I worked as a special education teacher, and I bring that experience into my counseling practice every day. I understand the complexities parents face when their child is struggling—whether emotionally, behaviorally, or developmentally. My background allows me to support children with a wide range of needs, and to partner with parents in a way that feels both supportive and empowering.

I use a variety of evidence-based approaches, including:

  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Certified Family Reunification Specialist (CFRS)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Play Therapy

I provide individualized support for both children and their parents, because I believe lasting change happens when we work together as a team.

If you’re wondering whether counseling might help your child or family, I’d love to talk. Please call or email me to schedule a free consultation. I look forward to connecting with you and learning how I can help.

Meet Lulu!

Therapy dogs can provide comfort and emotional support during counseling sessions, helping to reduce anxiety and create a safe environment for clients. Their calming presence encourages openness and fosters trust, making it easier for individuals to express their feelings and work through challenges. Additionally, the interaction with a therapy dog can promote mindfulness and grounding, enhancing the overall therapeutic experience.

Meet Lulu, my lovable 4-year-old Labradoodle and certified therapy dog. With her soft, curly coat and warm, friendly demeanor, she brings a sense of comfort and joy to our therapy sessions. Lulu has been trained to provide emotional support and companionship, making her an invaluable part of the healing process.

More about me…

I started my journey in working with children over 13 years ago. I spent time in special education and followed it as a school counselor and now as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Each step of my journey was led by my passion for working with children and their families. Working closely with children and adolescents and their families allowed me to see the unique challenges they face, as well as the incredible strengths they possess.

Throughout my experience, I have witnessed the transformative power of support and understanding. Children often carry burdens that may not be visible at first glance, and my role has been to create a safe space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings. Collaborating with families has enabled me to help them develop strategies and tools to foster resilience and growth in their children.

Each interaction helps both the child and me grow. I am committed to learning and improving to better support my clients. By concentrating on their unique needs and experiences, I aim to empower children and teenagers to face their challenges with confidence.

My journey continues to inspire me, and I am committed to being an advocate for the well-being of children and their families, ensuring they feel heard, supported, and equipped to thrive.
